Shepperton, located approximately 15 miles southwest of central London in north Surrey, England, is a village with a rich history and picturesque surroundings. Situated on the north bank of the River Thames, within the Borough of Spelthorne, Shepperton is positioned between the towns of Chertsey and Sunbury-on-Thames. Its historical roots date back to 959 AD and are documented in the Domesday Book.

During the early 19th century, Shepperton attracted renowned writers and poets such as Rider Haggard, Thomas Love Peacock, George Meredith, and Percy Bysshe Shelley. The village’s allure was heightened by its proximity to the River Thames, depicted in artworks by renowned painters like Canaletto and Turner. Shepperton Lock and nearby Sunbury Lock were constructed in the 1810s to enhance river navigation.

Urbanization gained momentum in the late 19th century with the establishment of the Shepperton Branch Line in 1864, sponsored by William Schaw Lindsay, owner of Shepperton Manor. Despite Lindsay’s vision of extending the railway to connect to the South Western Main Line, Shepperton’s railway station remains a terminus.
